On October 7, the team of Prof. John P. A. Ioannidis at Stanford University, in collaboration with Elsevier, released the 2026 edition of the World's Top 2% Scientists list—the ninth edition published by the team. The list draws on standardized metrics—citation counts, h-index, co-author-corrected hm-index, citations by author position, and a composite c-score—for roughly ten million scientists worldwide. To account for disciplinary differences, scientists are classified into 22 fields and 174 subfields, providing a long-term measure that more objectively reflects academic impact. The list comprises two rankings: career-long impact and single-year impact.

A total of 31 scholars from Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School were named to the career-long impact ranking. Among them, 8 are from the School of Advanced Materials (in no particular order): Jin Zhang, Wenchang Tan, Feng Pan, Ruqiang Zou, Hong Meng, Shihe Yang, Xinwei Wang, and Jiaxin Zheng.

In the single-year impact ranking, 50 scholars from Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School were recognized. Among them, 11 are from the School of Advanced Materials (in no particular order): Jin Zhang, Feng Pan, Shihe Yang, Ruqiang Zou, Hong Meng, Jiaxin Zheng, Fanyang Mo, Yinguo Xiao, Xinwei Wang, Mingchao Wang and Luyi Yang.
