The School of Advanced Materials Graduate Student Union is now recruiting new members for the 2026–2027 academic year.
As a student-run organization under the Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School Graduate Student Union, we serve as a bridge between the School and its graduate students. Our mission is to enrich student life beyond the lab—through academic exchange, cultural and sports activities, and student support services—while fostering a vibrant, collaborative community.
Whether you are interested in event planning, academic programming, communications, or athletics, there is a place for you here. No prior experience is required. What matters most is your enthusiasm and willingness to contribute.
I. What We Do
The Graduate Student Union is led by a Presiding Board and organized into five functional departments:
Organization Department— Coordinates daily operations and leads large-scale student events such as the Fun Sports Meet and spring outings.
Academic Department— Organizes course review sessions, industry talks, and company visits to support academic and career development.
Arts and Culture Department— Plans and produces performances, cultural events, and campus celebrations.
Sports Department— Runs campus sports programs, including the University Sports Meet, Freshman Cup, and signature events like the graduation basketball tournament and glow run.
Communications Department— Manages event promotion, photography, news writing, and the School’s official media platforms.

- What can I gain from joining?
You will meet students from across the School, develop practical skills in event planning and coordination, and enjoy a supportive community outside your own lab.
- I have no student organization experience. Can I still apply?
Absolutely. Most of our members started with no prior experience. Training and mentorship are provided in every department. We value reliability and willingness to learn more than existing skills.
- Will this interfere with my research?
The workload is manageable and mostly project-based. Scheduling is flexible and coordinated around lab commitments. Many members find that the experience helps them manage their time more efficiently.
- What is the selection process?
Submit an application form, then attend a short interview. The interview is a casual conversation about your interests and availability—not a formal test.
- How do I choose a department?
Follow your interests. If you enjoy organizing events, consider Organization or Arts and Culture. If you are interested in academic programming, consider Academic. If you enjoy sports, consider Sports. If you like photography or writing, consider Communications. You can also discuss your options during the interview, and adjustments are possible after joining.
