In 2026, the School of Advanced Materials (SAM) at Peking University will enroll Master's and Ph.D. students from residents of Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan through an "Application-Assessment" mechanism. The SAM focuses on key research areas including new energy materials, optoelectronic display materials, biomedical materials, functional structural materials, and carbon materials.
II. Application Eligibility
1. Applicants must be permanent residents of Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan, holding the following valid identification documents:
・Hong Kong/Macao Applicants: Must possess ① a Hong Kong or Macao Permanent Identity Card, and ② a "Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents" or a "Residence Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents".
*Note: Holders of the "Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents (Non-Chinese Nationality)" are not eligible to apply under this guide.*)
・Taiwan Applicants: Must possess ① a valid Taiwan residence identity proof, and ② a "Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents" or a "Residence Permit for Taiwan Residents".
2. Academic Requirements:
(1) Applicants for Master's programs must hold a degree equivalent to a bachelor's degree from the Chinese mainland.
(2) Applicants for Ph.D. programs must hold a degree equivalent to a master's degree from the Chinese mainland.
*Note: Master's students enrolled at PKU may apply for the Master-Ph.D. consecutive program after one full academic year of study. The selection process, including timing, quotas, and methods, will follow the "Regulations on the Training of Master-Ph.D. Consecutive Program Students at Peking University", the "Notice on the Selection of Master-Ph.D. Consecutive Program Students in 2026" (see the PKU Graduate School website), and relevant regulations of the specific school/department.
(3) Holders of academic qualifications obtained outside the Chinese mainland must provide a Certification Report of Foreign Academic Qualifications issued by the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE), Ministry of Education.
(4) Prospective graduates must obtain a recognized degree certificate before the registration date for the 2026 intake. (Holders of qualifications from mainland Chinese institutions must provide an Online Verification Report of the Higher Education Qualification Certificate from the China Higher Education Student Information (CHSI). Holders of qualifications obtained outside the Chinese mainland must provide the Certification Report of Foreign Academic Qualifications from the CSCSE). Otherwise, the admission offer will be invalidated.
3. Applicants must be of good moral character, in good physical and mental health, comply with the laws and regulations of the People's Republic of China, and meet the basic academic and language proficiency requirements of the applied program.
4. Two written letters of recommendation are required from scholars holding the title of associate professor (or above) or equivalent professional title, related to the intended field of study.

(4) Official transcripts from attended institutions (original or notarized copies).
(5) Personal Statement (Written in Chinese. Briefly introduce your academic background and detail your study and research plan for the graduate program. Approximately 1500 words for Master's, 3000 words for Ph.D.).

The foreign language requirements for Ph.D. applicants shall be implemented with reference to the latest admission guide for students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan published by the PKU Shenzhen Graduate School.
