The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) andSchool of Advanced Materials at Peking University announced the winners of its fifth annual “Top Ten Academic Stars” award in a hybrid ceremony connecting its main Beijing campus and the Shenzhen Graduate School.

The selection, first launched in 2022, recognizes emerging student researchers who exemplify academic excellence and innovation in materials science.
Twenty graduate students advanced to the final defense round (14 from Beijing, 6 from Shenzhen). Each delivered a six-minute presentation on their research, followed by a two-minute Q&A with a faculty panel. Topics spanned next-generation energy materials, nanodevices, biomedical materials, and structurally functional integrated materials.

After two and a half hours of presentations and deliberation, ten students received the “Top Ten Academic Stars” title. The awards were announced by Dean Zou Ruqiang.
In his remarks, Dean Zou congratulated the winners and emphasized the role of original, fundamental research in achieving technological self-reliance. “Materials science is the foundation of many frontier technologies,” he said. “I encourage our students to dare to explore uncharted territories, align research with national strategic needs, and pursue breakthroughs from 0 to 1.”

The “Top Ten Academic Stars” program is part of MSE’s broader effort to foster high-quality graduate education and strengthen academic exchange across its multi-campus structure. The School plans to continue expanding such platforms to support the next generation of materials researchers.
